After a 13-race season that stretched seven months from late-March to early November, Alan Cox, M50-54, and Melissa Thompson, F25-29, emerged as the male and female winners of the 2013 Grand Prix Competition.  Cox beat runner-up and training partner Steve Steverson, M50-54, by just five points, 142-137.  Thompson finished well ahead of the rest of the women’s field, beating newcomer and runner-up, Jamila Allen, F20-24, 93-80.

The Overall Grand Prix Competition recognizes the top five male and female Tri Club members to cross the finish line at Grand Prix races, regardless of age group.  In essence, the award recognizes those Club members who consistently perform at the highest levels in the Club across all age groups and across all distances. 

The top five Overall men are: Cox (142 points); Steverson (137); Jon Nash, M30-34 (104);Matt Rowan, M45-49 (95); and Jason Venema, M30-34 (93).

The top five Overall women are: Thompson (93 points); Allen (80); Jamie Harris, F35-39 (65); Hilary Joyner, F40-45 (64); and Sara Nam, F45-49 (63). 

The 2013 Age Group Grand Prix Competition results are also completed and available at the link below.  The Age Group Grand Prix Competition recognizes the top five Club members in each age group who cross the finish line in Grand Prix events, with end-of-year awards going to the top three in every age group.  Several newcomers pushed their way into the top three age group slots.  (As a reminder, anyone finishing in one of the top five Overall positions is ineligible for an age group award, and the awards roll down to the next eligible Club member.)

In the attached spreadsheet, Overall winners are highlighted in some kind of scarlet/fuschia/pinkish color.  Age group winners are highlighted in purple.  (Click here to view the spreadsheet in older versions of Excel.)  As always, if you notice a discrepancy in the scoring, send a gentle e-mail to Rob McNeely, and we will look into it.  Remember, though: You must have placed either top-five overall or top-five in your age group to receive Grand Prix points at a race.
