MEETING ANNOUNCEMENTS & SPEAKERS: Many members of Gulf Winds Triathletes are heading into their first or second “A” race of the season, including Ironman Augusta 70.3 on Sept. 29 and Ironman Florida on Nov. 2. In that vein, our speakers for our September and October meetings will be focusing on those distances.
The September meeting is this Monday, September 16, and the topic will be, “Training for and Racing a 70.3,” with a focus on Augusta. Two of our own, both of whom excel as triathletes, Charlie Johnson and Marci Gray, will be our guests on an interactive panel moderated by Rob McNeely, the Club President. Charlie just returned from a successful appearance at the 70.3 World Championships in Las Vegas (4:38:54, 33rd out of 182 in 30-34 Age Group; 174/2062 overall). Marci competed in Age Group Nationals and, for the second year in a row, qualified for Worlds. Whether you’re staring down the barrel of your first Augusta or just contemplating doing a 70.3 next year, come and learn from some of the best. And bring questions!
The October meeting will feature two more of our best, speaking in the same format, but focusing on, “Training for and Racing an Ironman.” Plan to attend both meetings! No penalties for taking notes!

ELECTIONS: The Club is accepting nominations to serve on the 2014 Board of Directors through September 30. Any Club member may nominate any other Club member who is willing to serve. Positions available are: Vice President (a two-year term that automatically becomes President in 2015), Secretary, Treasurer, and five at-large positions. The Board meets at 6 p.m. on the third Monday of every month (before the regular monthly meeting), and is in pretty regular communication on Club matters via e-mail throughout the year. Except for Vice President, all terms are for one year. Time to pay if forward? Submit nominations by e-mail to gulfwindstriclub@comcast.net. Remember, the deadline is September 30, less than three weeks away.
